In the Fall of 2008, Flossmoor School district began the process of reviewing and analyzing its level of "Being Green" and committing to green initiatives. A committee formed in the Spring of 2009 to look at what the District has accomplished, is currently doing, and will do in the future with Green ideas. The committee is comprised of teachers, parents, and administrators who meet on a monthly basis.

Areas in which the District determined they were using Green equipment and strategies include:

• More efficient lighting in hallways, classrooms, gymnasiums, and multipurpose areas
  
• Motion sensors for lighting in boys/girls bathrooms to reduce water usage - sensors were added to faucets, toilets, and urinals
• All cleaning chemicals are environmentally friendly
• High speed dryers are used in all public restrooms to reduce paper waste

The committee developed a purpose and goals as a way to guide decision-making. Additionally, they were created to provide Green experiences for students and to reduce waste.
