Flossmoor School District 161 offers a continuum of special education services to children with disabilities.  The Special Education Department coordinates a variety of services so students can reach their maximum potential and achieve success.  The Special Education Department supports students through a variety of services including: Response to Intervention (RtI), Positive Behavior Interventions Supports (PBIS), hospital/homebound, psychological, counseling, social work, nursing, speech and language therapy, vision and hearing itinerant services and transportation.

    Please call Susan Fox at 708-647-7026 to make an appointment for one of the upcoming screenings or to find out more information about our preschool program.   The screening is free to district residents who have children ages 3 to 5.

  • SPEED #802 Family Enrichment Program

    The SPEED Family Enrichment Program is a birth to 3 Prevention Initiative Program funded by the Illinois State Board of Education. The goal is to assure school success by providing information and support to at risk families with infants and toddlers.

    FEP provides services to families in SPEED SEJA 802 member school districts, including those in Chicago Heights, Ford Heights, Glenwood, Homewood, Matteson, Park Forest and Markham.

    Special Education

    Children who are 8 years of age and older and receive services through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) are eligible to participate in the Special Olympics. Flossmoor School District has been participating in Special Olympic events through our Area 7 Special Olympics office. For the past several years we have competed in the individual basketball skills and the spring track & field events. Autism Wallet Card

 An important time for a person with Asperger Syndrome (Autism Spectrum) to disclose the fact that they have AS is when interacting with a "first responder." If you are an adult or teen with AS, please read the attached flyer to find out the importance of carrying a wallet card.  A cut out wallet card is also made available on the flyer.
