On October 6th, students at Heather Hill will participate in the annual Erin's Law presentation.
In accordance with “Erin’s Law” which is a law in Illinois that all public schools implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program, students in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade will participate in a virtual presentation given by Tom Kress. Tom Kress is a survivor of sexual abuse and has developed a program that is developmentally appropriate for our students. He has presented this program to numerous districts and schools in Illinois.
The focus of his presentation is to teach children basic skills to keep them safe from dangerous or abusive situations. The concepts that will be discussed are:
Knowing what an uncomfortable touch is
Knowing they have the POWER to say “STOP” and/or “NO”
Telling a trusted adult
Keep NO Secrets
It’s not the child’s fault if someone touches him or her
