Flossmoor School District 161 is excited to present the annual Visual Arts Expo for the 2024-25 school year. The Visual Arts Expo is a cherished tradition in SD161 that highlights the incredible art from students in the gifted art program at all schools. Parents and community members are invited to view the various works at the district offices, 41 East Elmwood Drive, Chicago Heights, Illinois. The viewing begins on May 7, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and artwork will remain on display on Thursday, May 8, and Friday, May 9, from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
As part of our ongoing commitment to serving our families and community with excellence, we’re inviting you to take part in a brief survey in partnership with Studer Education. Your feedback is incredibly valuable, and it helps us understand what’s working well in your child’s school and where we can improve.

It is both Staff Appreciation Week and School Nurses Day, and we could not be more grateful for the incredible people who make our schools thrive.

As Principal Appreciation Day comes to a close, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Isabelli of Western Avenue School. On Saturday and Sunday, May 3rd and May 4th, 2025, weather permitting, Flossmoor School District 161 will be applying an herbicide and a fertilizer to all of the district’s fields/grass areas. The products that will be used for this application are The Andersons Turf Products Fertilizer with Barricade Herbicide and Trimec 992 Broadleaf Herbicide. These products comprise a selective broadleaf herbicide and a lawn fertilizer that will be used to control weeds/dandelions in these areas, and will also fertilize all district lawns.

Huge thanks to the rockstar team at Irons Oaks for turning the great outdoors into the ultimate classroom for our Western Avenue 5th graders. With expert guidance, fresh air, and just the right mix of challenge and fun, it was a day full of aha moments and muddy shoes. Big shoutout to the Western staff who helped make the magic happen. The kids had an absolute blast soaking up nature and knowledge.

Destin, a Kindergartener, got the ultimate ride to school this morning, thanks to the Village of Flossmoor Fire Department!
Destin has big dreams and tells the Fire Department he is ready to join the team!

We would also like to give a well-deserved round of applause to Ms. Pasqua, Ms. Hanzelin, and Ms. Watson for the incredible energy, enthusiasm, and guidance they brought to the cast.
🎶 "Oompa Loompa doompadee doo," a standing ovation is in order for (Lollipop) cast and crew of Willy Wonka Jr.! Your performances were "pure imagination" at its finest, filling the stage with laughter, magic, and candy-coated charm! A special thanks to our incredible directors, Ms. Pasqua, Ms. Hanzelin, and Ms. Watson for making it all possible—"who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew," and turn it into a show-stopping performance?!? We’re so proud of all of you! "Come with me, and you'll be in a world of pure imagination!" 🎶

A huge congratulations to the incredible cast, crew, and directors of (Chocolate Cast) Willy Wonka Jr. for bringing this magical world to life! Even the tornado warning couldn’t stop the fun, nothing could rain on this chocolate parade! From the first Golden Ticket to the final bow, your dedication and talent have made this show a true "World of Pure Imagination." You've all shown what it means to dream big and work hard, and the result is nothing short of amazing. We’re all floating on air, and so proud of each and every one of you!
