Happy Halloween and Fall Party Day. Just a reminder, we are dismissing early today. Kdg - 5th grade releases at 11:40 and AM PreK at 11:30. Stop by Buona Beef after school for lunch or tonight for dinner to support our PTO.

Congratulations to our October Leaders of the Pack and Wolves in Bloom. We are so proud of you all.

This morning, the PTO Multicultural Committee showcased a celebration of Mexican culture featuring Gloria Contreras. Gloria is a local artist who is known for showcasing her Alebrijes throughout events in the Chicagoland area. Alebrijes are brightly colored Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures. She presented her designs before school in the halls and outside to the students of Western Avenue. Our PTO Multicultural Committee seeks to expand cultural awareness throughout the school year with other monthly cultural showcases.

We were honored to have Mayor Nelson be the guest reader in the library today for one of our first-grade classes. Mayor Nelson read a story to the students and discussed what a mayor does.

Thank you to the Flossmoor Fire Department for coming out to teach our PreK to 2nd graders about fire prevention. They even got to explore the fire truck.

We were "falling" into reading out our annual literacy night this past Thursday.

We hope to see you all out tonight for our Fall Literacy Night from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Homewood-Flossmoor High School Your VOICE Matters Survey: As Homewood-Flossmoor High School charts a course for the future through a strategic planning process, it is asking the community to share their thoughts on what is going well and what areas the school may want to rethink. The entire HF community is invited to take the Your VOICE Matters Survey. Results will be analyzed by the Strategic Planning Team. The survey closes on Friday, October 20, so please respond today! District 161's Board of Education meeting has been cancelled for Tuesday, September 26, 2023. The next District 161 Board of Education will take place on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.

We are kicking off October's anti-bullying month with a spirit week this week. Have fun participating in as many days as you would like.

Thank you to our PTO for organizing a super fun Back to School party. It was wonderful hanging out with all of our families Friday night.

We hope to see you at the annual Back to School party tomorrow [August 18] at Flossmoor Park. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. with fun family activities followed by the showing of "The Super Mario Bros." moving.

Despite the rain we are enjoying our 1st day of school - seeing old friends and new.
