There are currently two vacancies on the Flossmoor School District 161 Board of Education following the resignations of Christina Vlietstra and Dr. Carolyn Griggs.
Under Illinois law, the Board of Education is required to fill a vacancy within 60 days of the resignation. The Board will appoint successors to serve in the vacant positions.
The Board previously received interest from several community members regarding the vacancy created by Christina Vlietstra’s resignation and completed the initial process of identifying candidates for consideration. Following Dr. Griggs’ resignation, the Board will use the existing candidate pool to fill both vacancies.
As the next step in the process, Board members will interview candidates from the existing pool on the evening of September 17, 2026. Following the interviews, the Board intends to select two candidates to fill the two vacancies.
The Board of Education intends to make the appointments at its September 28, 2026, meeting.
