Ribbon Cutting at Heather Hill School

On Tuesday, August 19, Flossmoor School District 161 celebrated the completion of major renovations at Heather Hill Elementary School with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event highlighted the transformation of the school’s learning environment and the community partnerships that helped bring the project to life.

The upgrades, designed by Wold Architects & Engineers, with the project managed by Pepper Construction, included a relocated main office to improve security and visitor access, new staff offices and meeting spaces, an expanded kindergarten classroom with a private bathroom, a new intermediate playground, and a repurposed former office area that now serves as a flexible instructional space. Interior improvements feature new furniture, LED lighting, updated classroom technology, accent-painted walls, and refreshed staff areas.

“This project has transformed the way our building functions,” said Principal Carol Humm. “The new spaces are brighter and more welcoming, accessible for all, and will help us further support learning.”

Superintendent Dr. Dana Smith emphasized that the impact of these changes reaches beyond the building itself. “This renovation project has updated our school spaces, so that our children have welcoming and engaging places to learn and play.  I am grateful for the District 161 Board of Education’s consistent investment in our schools and community.”

Heather Hill and Serena Hills Elementary Schools are the first of the District 161 schools to undergo facility upgrades. Similar interior building improvements are planned in the future at Flossmoor Hills, Western Avenue, and Parker Junior High.
